The Beatles Forever?

If I asked you about The Fab Four, would you know who I mean? What if I said The Beatles ?

I used to think - up to a couple of hours ago- that everybody (and I do mean "everybody") would know, but then I watched this video below....

Can you answer the other questions they ask:
* How many were they?
* Name one song by The Beatles

I know stats are tricky and we should know how many people were interviewed and how many did get the questions right, but this video has taught me an important lesson: the most representative band of the 1960s Brit-pop is no longer part of the musical knowledge of a wide part of society - mainly young people. Let´s face it,  "The Beatles Forever" may be a Facebook group but not a real motto any longer.

If you want to learn a little bit more about this band or just enjoy yourself listening to their songs or watching their videos or photos, click on any of these two webpages: The Internet Beatles Album , My Space

Dear students, please, tell me, can you answer the questions above? If you can´t, I´ll have to accept that The Beatles are just one more example of the generation gap between you and me. I´m looking forward to your answers.

The question "who were the fab four" it is a little bit tricky, there were gorgeous groups formed by four people! But I do understand how you should feel about those videos. Even if I'm not a Beatle-maniac I know they were four (Ringo Star, Paul McCartney, Jonh Lennon and George Harrison) eventhough Ringo's place was first occupied by someone else.
Some songs from the Beatles I really like are Helter Skelter and Penny Lane.

  4. Carlos, sorry for you! (not because you don´t like The Beatles but because when you disagree about music with your parents, quite often you must put up with whatever they like)

  5. I don't know who you mean with The Fab Four, but of course i know who the Beatles were: a british pop group. I know that they were four but i only know the name of the guitarist John Lennon and the bassist Paul McCartney. I know some of their songs like "love me do", "let it be" and also the movie of "Sgt Pepper's lonely hearts club band" where they appeared. I know this because my mum asked me to download this film some months ago.

  6. Lorena, did you watch the film, too? I seem to remember it is quite peculiar, isn´t it?

I think that The Beatles are more than one exemple of the generation gap between you and us. Even people who dont like them should have listened to them at least once, because some of their songs are still very famous. "She loves you", "Let it be" or "Here comes the sun" are some of my favourite ones.

I didn´t know The Beatles like The Fab Four, but of course I know who are the Beatles and some of their songs. They were four: Ringo Star, Paul McCartney, Jonh Lennon and George Harrison.
And one song of they, I prefer other type of music but I think they were the peoneers of my style music, I like vety much ``Yesterday´´.
    Greetings.

  9. Laura, they may have heard them - and if they haven´t, maybe they should have(review of modals, ha!)- but if they cannot remember the music, then it´s like water off a duck´s back...

  10. Xoel, so what music style do you like? Since you don´t want to go to an English-speaking country in the summer, I hope you listen to English songs from time to time for some oral practice....

I didn't know The Beatles as The Fab Four actually, but anyway, I really like them and sometimes I listen to their music. There were: John Lennon, Paul McCarnie, George Harrison and Ringo Star. One song?Maybe "Help" is the famous one with "Yellow submarine". I guess that the interview is tricked because, not all young people do not know how many there were, or almost a song from them, at least, I do, and everyone I know do it too.

  13. Antía, as I mentioned in the entry, it is true we do not know how many people in the survey knew the answers but I am really surprised at how many people ignore who they are.

Oh my god, the beatles are my favorite band, I have all his albums and some vinyl. John, Paul, George and Ringo (and in its early years, before calling Beatles, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe) changed music history inventing new musical genres like grunge with Helter Skelter and the psychedelic rock with Lucy in the sky with diamonds. The fab four think this is a music group that imitates the Beatles and sing their songs. If I had to choose a song would be quite difficult, but I choose A day in the life, is absolutely fantastic, like almost all of these four guys
    P.S: I'm Manuel Novo Pérez

  15. Manuel, why don´t we change the topic of your oral presentation? You could talk about The Beatles; I bet you could share lots of information with us and you would have a great time preparing it. OK?
