The Spirit of Christmas

This is the Sainsbury´s Christmas 2014 advert. It commemorates the events that happened on Christmas Day in 1914, when the war (World War I) stopped for a while and German and British troops sang Christmas carols and played football together - this fact is known as the "Christmas truce of 1914"

Everything in the video has been made as accurate as possible, based on historical fact, from the insignia on the men´s uniforms to the depth of the trenches.

The chocolate bar featured in the ad is on sale at Sainsbury´s now and all profits will go to The Royal British Legion

The video below tells the story behind the Christmas ad: the stories told in the diaries of the soldiers, the interviews with the experts who advised the ad creators, the interview with the grandson of a soldier who was there…Click on CC to get the subtitles
