Students´Attitudes

Manuel, this post if for you. In our class yesterday morning I could´t help smiling when I saw you stretching your arm like crazy trying to attract my attention so that I would let you answer a question I had asked someone else in class. I remember I mentioned you had reminded me of something: this is it, this cartoon.

When you are a teacher, you realize no two classes are exactly the same and yesterday, in the class before yours, I had asked the students to take part, be active, speak in class...because most of the students in that group just sit there - and that´s exactly what they do: just sit. It´s so hard to make them actually speak and participate... And then I go to your class and some of the students there find it really hard to focus on whatever we are doing since their conversation is usually much more interesting than anything we may be doing in class, others seem to be in the clouds, a few of you actually follow the rhythm of the class and some -like you in this case- really want to prove they do... And all that diversity in just the first two hours in the morning...

  1. haha, thank you very much for taking the blog, the truth is that many people in our class does not participate, just come to spend the time, although almost always not carry the books, I like to attend and participate in the few things I know or I might be interested,I think I can do the class involved more amused for all and encourage others to participate as well, a cartoon funny of course haha

    P.S:I'm Manuel Novo

  2. Thank you for your positive attitude, Manuel. You need to make a greater effort in your grammar and writing, though.

  5. Congratulations on your excellent blog. I totally agree with you. It's very hard for us, teachers, to encourage students to speak in class. However, the question is: do they actually talk in Spanish? They are teenagers, aren't they? so, no need for long speeches. By the way, I was your student in the early 90's and at time I didn't talk so much either. Well, as long as we keep on trying to motivate them. Thanks for your teaching reflections. Bye, Rosa.

  6. Danny, thanks for your flattering remarks, which I appreciate even more coming from a former student. Since you work in Lugo, why don´t you drop by the school? It would be nice to have a little chat with you, now that you are a teacher as well.
