First of all, take a piece of paper and write one of your secrets, any of them, we all have plenty of them: some are big but some are just irrelevant. How do you feel? Do you think you would be able to share it with someone? What if you did it anonymously? Now you are ready to read the post.
We all have secrets but they can can take many forms: they can be shocking, or silly, or soulful. That´s how they are described by Frank Warren, the founder of PostSecret.com, a webpage where he shares some of the half-million secrets that strangers have mailed him on postcards like the ones you can see in this entry, and which he has been collecting for about seven years.
In this talk, he shows some of the postcards he received and reads some of the messages written on them: some are funny, some are sad, some are just strange...
The good thing about this video is that you can get the subtitles in English, and you get the transcript as well, so I am sure you will have no problems to understand and enjoy the talk. Or you can watch the video directly on the TEDTalks webpage.
And now, would you like to share your secret with us? Remember you can write an anonymous comment...
I love this video and the way he used to speak, telling his innermost secrets. Although I am really excited, it is a video I cannot stop watching over and over again.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is better to tell some personal experiences that keep them for ourselves.
Paula, I agree it is good sometimes to tell about some "secrets" rather than keep them for themselves; but it is also true that either you find someone reliable or, if you just want to "get rid of the secret," you can make it public anonymously. That´s why this webpage is a very good idea. As we could see in the video, there are lots of people looking forward to making their secrets public.
DeleteThis is very interesting but I think that you maybe would should save some secrets, not for example for bad otherwise for have some secrets, for the fact of having secrets. This secrets may become a person more interesting or things like that. In the other hand, this way is a good way to express your feelings and removing a load off.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Xoel, as with most things, there are two sides to the matter and both of them are perfectly OK
DeleteThis video shows how we are people and the kinds of secrets that we have. There are a lot of types of secrets but most of them are irrelevant, however we give them great importance.People are known to need have secrets because we fell less vulnerable to other people. When someone knows all about us we lost our force so that we can defend us in a complicated situation. Therefore we love knowing secrets about onther people, we feel that we know that person and there is a link.
ReplyDeleteThe world of secrets is certainly complicated, Beatriz

ReplyDeleteI think that it isn't easy to share your secrets, even they are often nonsense, they are yours. Sometimes you save your secrets because you are ashamed of them or, simply, you prefer to keep them for you, avoiding judgments of others (even they were close friends or people whom you trust on). So in my opinion this is a very interesting and amazing website, where you can share your secrets, but in an anonymous way, " freeing" them (that sometimes is really necessary). I also loved the work and study of this man, Frank Warren, and all that is behind each secret, that always shows part of us and our personality.
ReplyDeleteFor all this I have encouraged me, and after browsing through his website, I have decided to send him a postcard with one of my secrets!
Lucía, if you eventually send the postcard, think a little bit about your feelings at that moment:relieved? happy? frightened? excited?... He´ll surely feel excited knowing it has travelled all the way from Spain!
